Laker Wave Towels, The Injured Clippers, And Bynum-Mania

“Hey, guess where I’m going?” my coworker asked me.
“Where?” I asked, a bit bummed that it was a Monday.
“To the Lakers-Cavs game.  Floor seating.

That’s the exact moment my jaw hit the floor.  I couldn’t stop yelling “Kobe VS. Lebron” at him.  I told him to keep screaming at the Laker coaching staff to put Sun Yue on Lebron, just because he would be within earshot and would probably get a laugh.

My coworker could soon tell that I was crazy for the Lakers.  Maybe a bit too crazy.  But he gets mad kudos for getting me this authentic Lakers wave towel from that game.  I still sleep with this thing, it makes a great adult teddy bear.

The Lake Show played a “road” game tonight.  Yes, they played the Clippers (or, what remains of the Clippers with Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, and Tim Thomas all injured).  Yes, it was at Staples Center, the shared arena of the two Los Angeles teams.  There is just something strange about the majority of the crowd cheering after a missed Clipper free-throw when the court is painted with the Clippers’ color and logo.

I’m really glad Kobe’s right ring finger X-ray came out negative, but he had to bandage that puppy up so tight that he could not bend it tonight.  18 points by way of 5-15 shooting from the field could only beat a team like the Clippers.  His finger needs to get better fast.

How about Andrew Bynum?  He dropped a career high 42, with a lot of those points coming on some sweet post moves that turned into turnaround baby hooks.  I loved it.  Even if it was against over-matched Brian Skinner.  He also grabbed 15 rebounds and had 3 blocked shots.

I’m very close to starting the Shaq comparisons, but perhaps a better model for him (with his better jumper) would be Patrick Ewing.  I’m still holding out hope for such greatness for the young 21-year old center.  One thing is for sure, we definitely saw greatness from him tonight.
